An operating system is a set of programs that allow the user to interact, or communicate, with the computer and its components (monitor, hard drive, optical readers, scanners, etc.) and facilitates the performance of basic tasks.
It is the first program to run after turning the system on and after the POST phase.
Examples of operating systems are Linux, Debian, Ubuntu, Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Vista, macOS, Android, etc.
